Our philosophy

Kindness, Curiosity, Passion, and Truth

Park 1039 was built with the dream of bringing together products that inspire us, and a team that genuinely loves what they do.

Owner Steven Goodale is the heart of the Park, and has worked tirelessly to open a top notch eatery and market for the last three years. Goodale is passionate about fine wines, especially when it comes to France. “When you taste Clos De Beze you taste flowers, spring, and softness. It’s elegance and beauty in a bottle.” Steve wants everyone to experience the best food and wine the world has to offer, and bring a unique selection of offerings to his beautiful city of San Luis Obispo.

Our mission statement at the Park is “Kindness, Curiosity, Passion, and Truth”. These are the pillars that guide us in our choices and manifest in everything you see in our space. As a team, we always consider the consciousness of our producers as well as the quality of the product. We embrace everything hand-made from our ceramics, chef’s knives, uniforms, and hand blown crystal glassware.

Meet the Team

Culinary Program

At the Park we aim to celebrate food that is alive- an expression of nature. Our Chefs are passionate about foraging for wild herbs, flowers, and even sea water for finishing salt. The products that can’t be made in house are thoughtfully sourced from local farmers or high quality import producers. Our chefs are dedicated to creating seasonal offerings that make their high quality ingredients the star of each course.

Wine Program

At Park 1039 we have more than 2,000 bottles from over 26 different countries in our cellar at any given time. Our cellar also includes an impressive collection of vintage bottles for you to enjoy.

What our wines from around the globe have in common are the farming practices. We firmly believe that wine is made in the vineyard, and seek to represent the farmers embracing regenerative agriculture.

 About our hand-made products

Heidi Peterson Ceramics

Heidi Peterson has been hand crafting pottery in the town of Santa Margarita, CA since 2005. Beforeopening TABLE, Heidi traveled the world. After visiting Africa, Peterson knew she had to return- this time in the Peace Corps. With her Masters in Agriculture, truly moved and inspired by the deeply colored iron rich soils of Mauritania, she started to notice the hand shaped clays all around her. With the color palette of Africa still in her heart, Heidi picked up her signature dark brown clay and began shaping her love of the Earth into the pottery she creates today. Heidi’s new studio is currently nestled in a picturesque nursery, surrounded by love and life.

Faith Kenny Ceramics

Faith Kenny is a talented potter in San Luis Obispo, hand crafting creative and functional pieces in small batches. Faith is always creating unique new designs, and dreaming of the next project. Faith Kenny uses her pottery to bring love and joy to all who use her art, inspiring smiles and creating memories around the dinner table. Kenny has always loved going all out setting the table since she was a child. “I still do the same thing today. Every time I set the table or pick out mugs for coffee in the morning, I always choose the most beautiful pieces I have. Because why not celebrate?” -Faith Kenny

At Park 1039, we love setting the table with the best pieces, too.

Schott Zwiesel Enoteca 1872

The Zwiesel 1872 ENOTECA glass collection is hand-made in Germany with balanced and exquisite Titanium Crystal to perfectly experience the wine as the winemaker intended. Each glass is made to perfectly compliment it’s respective wine style, and will elevate the wine and showcase the terroir.

Hedley & Bennet Aprons

Hedley & Bennet started in a professional kitchen out of the need for something better; an apron developed hand in hand with insanely talented, obsessive chefs; relentlessly refined to be not just an apron, but the perfect companion to any cooking adventure—be it service for 200 or dinner for two. Thirteen pairs of hands touch every single apron they make- And they only work with producers who put the same value on quality as they do. We at Park 1039 worked with H&B to hand craft our custom work shirts and aprons. “If you only ate at the Los Angeles restaurants whose chefs sport Hedley & Bennett aprons, you'd be eating at some of the finest places the city has to offer.” - The New York Times Magazine

About our farmers

Hidden Canyon Ranch

Hidden Canyon Ranch, nestled between the gorgeous Santa Ynez and Lompoc Valleys, boasts expansive views from almost all spots on the ranch; including rolling hills studded with majestic oak trees, expansive lawns, and surrounding vineyards and ranches. They are 44 acres of land nestled in the rolling Santa Rita Hills- that magical part of California with East/West coastal valleys that allow the cool ocean breezes & fog to roll in creating the special climate that is the Santa Rita Hills AVA. Established in 2010, Hidden Canyon Ranch has been slowly expanding their operation to farming & ranching guided by the principles of biodynamics, regenerative agriculture & permaculture.

Flannery Beef

A family business since 1963, Flannery Beef has worked hard to be the best in the butchery business. Sourcing only the highest quality beef from American farmers, Flannery chooses only grass fed and grain finished cows. Based in San Rafael, Bryan and his daughter Katie now run the reputable company. At Park 1039 our Chefs like to work with their incredible dry aged New York, bone marrow, and short ribs.

Rutiz Family Farms

Rutiz Family Farms has been growing quality, pesticide-free, organically fertilized vegetables, berries, culinary herbs, and flowers since 1981. At Rutiz Family Farms, it isn’t just about growing fruits and vegetables—it's about redefining a relationship between a community and the farmer. The farm stand, located adjacent to the farm’s thirty acres of beautiful land just outside of Arroyo Grande, allows for direct sales of our farm products, harvested at their peak of ripeness and flavor. Organic fertilizers, no pesticide use, and extensive green manure cropping enables us to grow healthy plants while building soil fertility. In order to offer a constant array of seasonal items, the farm grows more than 50 varieties of hand-harvested crops ranging from sweet corn and tomatoes in the summer, to cool weather items like potatoes and lettuce in the winter.
